DIY Wooden Slice Chalkboard Welcome Sign

I have seen these cute little wooden signs around and have fallen completely in love with them. To buy them can be kinda expensive. So I thought I would make my own. The ones  I have seen are all hand written, but I have horrible hand writing so I thought well I can find a cute font and cut it out on vinyl and paint it. So thats what I did.

Here is what you need.

* Wooden slice ( I got mine at Michael's for around $6.00 with a coupon)
* Paint Brush
* Flat Black and White Paint
* Vinyl

Find your favorite font. I got mine from DaFont.com

First, painted the whole thing with the black. Since you are using a flat paint you will want to make sure that your brush strokes are all the same way. You will be able to see them. I didn't paint the whole entire front as you can see I started in just a little bit so there would be a border around it. It isn't actually chalkboard paint, but using flat paint will give it that look.

I waited a day for that to dry and then cut the wording out with my Silhouette. You could just attach the vinyl right to the piece of wood and that would work just fine, but I was going for the chalkboard look so I just used the vinyl as a stencil and painted the words. I like the way it looks.

The possibilities are endless with these. I am going to be making a smaller one to add to my spring decor.

I am going to be sharing all my favorite fonts next week so come back and check those out. The font I used will be in that post.  If you make one of these I would love to see it. Tag me on Instagram.
